Star Solutions Empowers Service Providers with Simple, Flexible LTE Core Network Platform

Star Solutions’ Sonata EPC platform for fixed networks enables network operators of all sizes to take advantage of 4G LTE technology

Star Solutions, a leader in supplying innovative cellular network infrastructure equipment, today announced that its Sonata EPC platform, designed and developed for mobile network operators, is now deployed at multiple fixed wireless network operator locations. These network operators (often referred to as WISPs, Wireless Internet Service Providers) are leveraging the availability of 4G LTE products to reach broadband Internet customers in unserved and underserved markets.

The solution is marketed as the Sonata EPCfn, geared towards enabling WISPs to deploy 4G LTE networks using an easy to deploy, scalable and high performance platform. The Sonata EPCfn can be delivered as a premise based solution or virtualized in operator or cloud-based datacenters. Customers have the ability to connect their own base stations from any vendor supporting standards based interfaces. The platform can be deployed across distributed network architecture enabling operators to optimize the network transport costs across multiple locations. This type of network flexibility allows WISPs to quickly scale their growth and provide new cost-effective services.

According to the findings of the 2018 Broadband Deployment Report by the FCC (Federal Communications Commission, 2018), 30% of rural Americans and 36% of tribal residents lacked access to mobile LTE broadband internet (Median Speed of 10 Mbps/3 Mbps). In Canada, the CRTC has created a $750 million fund to improve broadband Internet access services in underserved areas. This aims to ensure that by 2021,90% of Canadian homes and small businesses have access to fixed broadband services that offer speeds of 50Mbps download/10 Mbps upload.

Star Solutions’ Sonata EPCfn platform helps WISPs target rural deployments in a cost-effective manner and helps address the service gap in underserved areas. “Star Solutions has always supported network operators in rural markets around the world with cost-effective solutions. We’re pleased to bring our mobile product platform to the fixed wireless access market to further the reach of broadband internet in rural homes,” says Myles Lu, VP of Business Development & Marketing at Star Solutions. “Network operators are using our scalable, flexible and modular approach to build out their core networks cost effectively.”
